AXT Partner to Bring Nanolive’s Live Cell Imaging Platform to Australia and New Zealand

AXT have been appointed a distributor for Nanolive, an innovative young company specialising in live cell imaging. Their first product, the 3D Cell Explorer uses revolutionary patented technology called holographic tomography to allow researchers to peer non-invasively deep into biological systems without damaging or interfering with the cells. Furthermore, it boasts the highest resolution of any commercially available conventional microscope.

The 3D Cell Explorer has potential to be used in a vast array of cellular imaging applications. Such is the versatility of the technology that it can be used to investigate how cells grow and interact with their environment, stimuli such as therapies and drugs as well as other cells. Some existing applications include researching treatments for diseases, ailment and infections. However, the technology is still so young that there are applications for it that have not even been considered as yet.

While the list of potential applications is yet to be fully exploited, the system has the ability to generate 3-dimensional images of cells at high speed, with high resolution. This enables it to image whole cells almost instantaneously so you can see exactly how the cells are behaving under a given set of experimental conditions. This provides you with the most valuable window into the biological world if you are working in areas such as oncology, immunology, microbiology and virology.

Nanolive has combined holography and rotational scanning to create the ground breaking technology used in the 3D Cell Explorer. Holography offers a unique means to measure cells in their native environment: Label-free, non-invasive, manipulation-free, and interference-free. Rotational scanning allows 3D reconstructions, noise robustness, and a resolution far beyond the accepted limit for light. All this, with images having contrast levels similar to an MRI.

They have also made the sophisticated optics completely self-adjusting guaranteeing you are using the optimal alignment conditions, regardless of the experimental conditions. This allows you to concentrate on analysing specimens rather than adjusting the instrument.

AXT has a proven track record in bringing new technologies and suppliers into Australia. AXT’s Managing Director Richard Trett said of the new distributorship, “Nanolive have developed an exciting new technology and packaged it with sophisticated, yet user-friendly software. It is a powerful imaging tool rivalling products orders of magnitude higher in price. Any medical laboratory or teaching facility will benefit greatly from a 3D Cell Explorer.”

Dr Yann Cotte, CEO and Co-Founder of Nanolive commented, “we see the strength in Australia’s medical research community and recognise Australia’s penchant for new technologies, so it makes an appropriate place to focus some significant effort. Consequently, we are excited to partner with AXT whose infrastructure is able to support sales and service. We hope to have the first systems in Australia very shortly.”

The Nanolive 3D Cell Explorer joins a host of other products for biomedical imaging from manufacturers around the world. This portfolio includes pre-clinincal imaging technologies such as MRI, PET, FLECT, SPECT, CT and multi modal solutions from MR Solutions, TriFoil Imaging and Rigaku.
