Mission: Coriosity Real-Time LIBS Analyser for Core Samples
Direct imaging and elemental analysis
The Mission: Coriosity is the most advanced benchtop analyser for core sample imaging and analysis. Winner of the Pittcon 2017 Silver Excellence Award, it allows direct imaging and multi-elemental analysis of core samples with a resolution down to 50µm. This provides higher resolution elemental mapping than the best SEM with EDS system.
Key Features
LIBS technology featured on the Mission: Coriosity is the fastest chemical mapping technique with 50µm spatial resolution currently available. Key characteristics include:
- Precision: Resolutions from 50 to 100 ?m
- Versatility: Analysis of any metal and any non-conducting material in many shapes and forms
- Adaptability: Accommodates sample roughness up to 4 mm on core
- Speed: Real time analysis at 1000Hz, 40 sec/cm2 at the highest resolution (faster speeds for lower resolutions)
- Range: From trace (sub-ppm) to percent concentration levels
- Simplicity: No sample preparation required
- Savings: Low operating costs
Example Data
Provided below are the spectrum (fingerprint) and map of a Lepidolite sample (K(Li,Al)2(Al,Si)4O10(F,OH)2).
Sample size 40mm x 20mm
Advantages of LIBS
LIBS technology has several advantages over competing technologies including:
- Can detect and quantify all elements with a high sensitivity to light atomic number elements e.g. Li
- No sample preparation required
- Suitable for any mineral
- Rapid analysis
